At NEXUS, we run two different grading syllabuses, Kung Fu & Kickboxing. All our Junior students (12 and under) will start in Kung Fu with the option to take Kickboxing grades at a later date. Adult students have the choice of which or both they would like to do. Our Ladies Only classes operate the Kickboxing syllabus only.

Grades are a test of many aspects of a Student’s abilities, including their fitness, technical skills and mental strength. If a Student successfully passes their Grade, they are awarded their Sash and certificate. Grades are optional, however, we encourage all our Students to grade as it is an excellent way to measure progress and achievement.

We hold grades three times a year for beginners up to Blue, with Purple and above grades being held twice a year.

We hold specific Grading Preparation Courses (held three to four weeks prior to a Grade) which allow us to properly assess a student’s readiness to grade and in addition to providing a Student additional time to practice and prepare, they are an opportunity for us to cover in one session, all the elements required for the Student to successfully achieve their next grade.

For Students taking green or above grades, the Grading Preparation Courses are a mandatory requirement, for the other grades the courses are optional.

As well as learning and practicing techniques in the classes, it is very important that all Students also practice at home. With our syllabuses, we are always building on what has come before, we do not learn a technique just for a Grade and never use it again. Students will only be considered ready for their next Grade, if they can remember and perform the techniques from previous Grades, in addition to performing their new techniques.
